Getting married in Bamble

To get married in Bamble, you need to do two things:

  1. Apply for a Certificate of no impediment (prøvingsattest). The certificate is valid for 4 months and must be valid on the day of the marriage ceremony.

  2. Book an appointment for your marriage ceremony. You can book as early as one year in advance.

How the wedding takes place

The marriage ceremony is held at Halen Gård. The ceremonies are led by the mayor, deputy mayor or municipal employees appointed by the city council.

The marriage ceremony lasts for 10-15 minutes and is based on the civil marriage form. You can exchange rings if you wish.

You may bring guests, but the total number of people cannot exceed 10.

What do you need to do?

  • Remember to bring valid identification on your wedding day. This applies to both you and your witnesses. Passports, National ID-cards (from the Schengen area), Norwegian issued driver’s licenses and bank cards with photo and personal identification number, are considered valid IDs. Electronic IDs are not accepted.

  • Two adult witnesses need to be present during the ceremony.

  • When you submit your certificate of no impediment, it is important that you check it for comments. If there is a comment regarding legal stay in Norway, you need to send us documentation of legal stay at least one week before the marriage ceremony.  More information about legal stay from UDI.

If these conditions are not met, the marriage ceremony will be postponed or cancelled.

Marriage certificate

You will receive a temporary marriage certificate after the ceremony. You will receive the final marriage certificate in the mail from the Tax Administration.
